In regard to CupidDating's comment up there, it's a huge turnoff when I see someone automatically putting down gamers for pursuing a hobby. When a guy says something like that, I immediately think, "Oh, another douchebag who can't stand someone with a different interest." If they waited in line all night for tickets for your favorite band instead, would you still think they're silly?

As for the article, you got most of the ones that annoy me. I would be far more entertained by (and interested in) a guy who made fun of these things on his profile the way you did than anyone who ever used them. I usually glaze over and move on to the next profile when I come across these things. In my opinion, they're almost as bad as the countless form messages I get from guys too lazy to write me a sentence or two from scratch.

By far, my favorite is: She must be willing to be as comfortable in formal attire as she is in jeans and a baseball hat.

Gimme an f'ing break. that is awful.

Here are some that make me roll my eyes:

"I don't know what to write here/I hate this bit" - it gets VERY boring reading this for the 100th time, plus it shows a complete lack of imagination. Is it really that hard writing a couple of paragraphs to describe your life? Is your life that empty?

"I love life" - well that's fab dabby dozy for you. If you love your life so much, why are you looking for men on the internet?

"I work hard, play hard" - yawn, another one that gets boring because so many unimaginative women use it. A red flat for me, it says that she's obsessed with her career and won't make time for you.

#2 "I like living life to the fullest" I think more than half of the people that use this one just don't get it or think waiting overnight for a World of Warcraft game release is living life to the fullest. LOL

Actually, I found a website that I used for my match.com profile.
It's the only one of its kind, I think. It doesn't just give tips...they schedule a one hour phone consultation after which they write a very personalized profile and headline.
Very cool...check it out.

Russ,
Love your blog! I just happened across it...

Here's an idea...let's have people submit their profile to you (and me) and we'll revamp it right here on your blog. What do you think? Check out my profile - I think I've avoided all the cliches even though I know you're really talking to the guys here. dhdo85022 (Match profile)

Thanks again for an entertaining blog!!

@chanceencounters, I haven't heard that one, clever, but it would have me running - sounds like a gold digger.

@holly, of course! I totally forgot that one. Do guys say that alot, too?

Russruggles, you forgot to add the super-heroish flog-you-to-death (but hugely favorite) babe string 'I am blonde'!!

I think it's augurs well if we completely steer clear of hackneyed phrases. It makes us look like just another face in the crowd. Try to sound as original as you can. Make yourself sound interesting. Try to use as many similes and metaphors as possible. Well, Girls, if you are blonde, well don’t just say that you are blonde. You could use sentences like, “My hair is the color of freshly harvested hay.”

My two cents.
